Main Info
Tui Blue Bahari Zanzibar – Kiwengwa, Zanzibar, Tanzania
The TUI BLUE Bahari Zanzibar is practically a small village, with five restaurants, four bars and three pools, right next to an ice-white sandy beach.
Everything centres around Tui Blue’s main outdoor pool, which is flanked by sunloungers and palm trees. There’s a paddling pool nearby for kids, plus a playroom, while a five-strong line-up of restaurants has you covered at mealtimes.
As for location, it’s bagged itself a peaceful, seafront spot on Zanzibar’s north-east coast. You can go from the pool to the island’s vanilla-coloured sands in a matter of minutes. If you fancy heading out for the day, Jozani Forest, Zanzibar’s only national park, is about an hour’s drive away.

- Peaceful setting
The quaint village of Kiwengwa’s perched on the north-eastern coast of Zanzibar. Its main appeal is the soft sweep of flour-white beach and the teal ocean waves that lap onto it. The village is small and authentic, and is fronted by a handful of high-end hotels.
The Festival of the Dhow Countries
The Festival of the Dhow Countries is an annual event, usually held over the first two weeks of July at various venues in Stone Town. It’s worth the hour’s drive from Kiwengwa – you’ll get to see art and culture from Africa, the Indian Ocean islands, the Gulf States, Iran and India.
Catch a tan at Pongwe Beach
Zanzibar’s beaches are recognised by their pristine appearance, and Kiwengwa’s main stretch is no different – it’s ideal for sunbathing, swimming and walking. It’s worth spending time at Pongwe, too. This beach is considered one of the best on the island, and it’s just a 10-minute drive south from Kiwengwa.
Spy an endangered monkey
The Jozani Forest – Zanzibar’s only national park – is less than an hour’s drive away from Kiwengwa. It’s famously home to the red colobus monkey, as well as bushbabies and more than 40 species of birds. Walk the forest nature trail or explore the boardwalk through creek-side mangroves.
Dine on spice-infused island specialities
There’s a long list of local delicacies in Zanzibar, and you’ll want to try as many as you can during your holiday. Many dishes are infused with the rich spices this island is known for. Try octopus curry, coconut bean soup, and ugali – a cross between mashed potatoes and grainy polenta.
Bag a bargain in Stone Town
Your best bet for a little retail therapy is to drive an hour west over to Stone Town, Zanzibar’s old quarter. The cobbled streets, mosques and jaw-dropping architecture make for an impressive backdrop to a spot of shopping. Barter your way through market stalls selling everything from silver bracelets to wood carvings.
