Amboseli

is elephant country beneath Kilimanjaro

Welcome to Amboseli

Elephants and Kilimanjaro Views

Amboseli National Park, in southern Kenya on the Tanzanian border, is known for its large elephant herds and clear views of Mount Kilimanjaro on mornings with good visibility. Swamps fed by the mountain’s snowmelt draw elephants, buffalo and hippo, and the park sits beside Maasai community lands.

We plan Amboseli safaris from Nairobi and combine them with Tsavo and the coast.

Things to do in Amboseli

Elephants in Amboseli National Park with Mount Kilimanjaro behind

Watch large elephant herds with Mount Kilimanjaro behind them, especially in the early morning. Then climb Observation Hill for panoramic views of the swamps. You can also meet Maasai families who live beside the park.

Best time to visit

June to October is dry, so animals gather around the swamps. Early mornings also bring the clearest views of Kilimanjaro.

How to get there

Amboseli is about four to five hours from Nairobi by road. Daily flights, meanwhile, reach the park’s airstrip in under an hour.
