Lamu
is a living Swahili island town
Welcome to Lamu
An Island Without Cars
Lamu Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest continuously inhabited Swahili settlements in East Africa. There are no cars on the island; people walk, ride donkeys and travel by dhow. Shela Beach, coral-stone houses and sunset dhow trips make it a slow, atmospheric stop.
We arrange stays in Lamu and can pair them with Watamu, Malindi or a safari in Tsavo.
Things to do in Lamu

Wander the narrow lanes of Lamu Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then take a dhow trip at sunset, because sailing is still how many locals travel. You can also walk along Shela Beach and visit the donkey sanctuary.
Best time to visit
Lamu is warm all year. January to March and September to October are the driest months, while heavy rain falls from April to June.
How to get there
Manda Island airport serves Lamu with regular flights from Nairobi and Mombasa. A short boat ride then completes the journey.
