Malindi

Welcome to Malindi

Swahili History and Sandy Beaches

Malindi is an old Swahili port town on Kenya’s north coast, with a long beach, the Vasco da Gama Pillar and a marine national park offshore. Inland, the Marafa Depression, known as Hell’s Kitchen, is a short drive away and is popular at sunset.

We combine Malindi with Watamu, Kilifi and Lamu for a longer stay on the north coast.

Things to do in Malindi

Malindi coast holiday: a bush-to-beach trip on the Kenyan coast

Visit the Vasco da Gama Pillar, a fifteenth-century cross on the headland. Then snorkel in the Malindi Marine National Park. You can also drive inland to the Marafa Depression, known as Hell’s Kitchen, for dramatic sunset views.

Best time to visit

The weather is warm and dry from December to March and again from July to October. In contrast, April and May bring the long rains.

How to get there

Malindi has its own airport with flights from Nairobi, and the town sits about two hours from Mombasa by road.
