Watamu

is a marine park on Kenya’s north coast

Welcome to Watamu

Reefs, Turtles and White Sand

Watamu sits on Kenya’s north coast, with white beaches, coral gardens and the Watamu Marine National Park. It is known for snorkelling and diving, turtle conservation work, the Gede Ruins and the nearby Arabuko Sokoke Forest.

We plan beach stays in Watamu and can combine them with Malindi, Lamu or a flight to a safari camp.

Things to do in Watamu

Watamu holiday: bush-to-beach holiday on the Kenyan coast at Watamu and Diani

Snorkel in the Watamu Marine National Park, where coral gardens shelter colourful fish. Then visit the Gede Ruins, the remains of a medieval Swahili town hidden in forest. You can also join a turtle conservation visit, because Watamu is an important nesting area for sea turtles.

Best time to visit

Calm seas and clear water make October to March a popular time for snorkelling and diving. However, the long rains in April and May are the quietest period.

How to get there

Malindi airport is about 30 minutes from Watamu, while the road from Mombasa takes around two hours.
