Watamu Marine Park Setting
Description
Hemingways Watamu is a five-star beachfront retreat overlooking the turquoise water of Watamu Marine National Park, and for close to 30 years it has stood for Kenyan coastal luxury. Spacious ocean-view rooms, attentive personal service, fine dining and marine adventures on the doorstep make it a standout for couples, families and divers.
Watamu, whose name means home of the sweet people in Swahili, lies about 120 km north of Mombasa and 20 km south of Malindi. Its reef-sheltered white beaches are among the best snorkelling and diving areas on the East African coast. Our team tailors flights, private airport transfers and excursions around your plans.

What to Expect
Hemingways sits in the middle of the Watamu Marine National Park, with a white sand beach and turquoise water. The park is known worldwide for its natural beauty and marine life, from visiting whale sharks and manta rays to three species of sea turtle.
There is plenty to do. Learn to kite-surf, earn a PADI certificate, take a sunset dhow cruise on Mida Creek, play a round at the nearby Vipingo Ridge golf course or go on safari for a few days in Tsavo or the Maasai Mara. If that sounds too energetic, relax by the pool with a cocktail.
The coast is tropical, with temperatures between 26 and 32 degrees Celsius through the year and sea breezes that keep it comfortable. The long rains fall in April and May and the shorter rains in October and November, while December to February brings the warm, calm seas of the northeast breeze.
Watamu’s Swahili culture mixes Omani, Portuguese and Bantu influences, and life moves at a languid pace. Both Watamu and nearby Malindi also have an Italian touch, with good pizzerias and gelato.
The starting rate is USD 127 (KSh 16,430) per person per night sharing, half-board. Special offers of 4 nights for 3 and 7 nights for 5 are available in 2026. The final price depends on your travel dates, room category and the number of guests, so contact our team to confirm availability and get a quote.
