Tsavo

is Kenya’s largest wilderness

Welcome to Tsavo

Red Elephants and Open Skies

Tsavo East and Tsavo West are Kenya’s largest national parks, covering a vast area between Nairobi and Mombasa. Tsavo is known for its herds of dust-red elephants, Mzima Springs, Lugard Falls and the Shetani lava flow. It is easy to combine with a beach stay on the coast.

We plan Tsavo safaris that end on the coast at Diani or Watamu.

Things to do in Tsavo

Tsavo safari ideas: family bush safari at a Kenyan safari camp

See herds of elephants that are often dusted red by the local soil. Then visit Mzima Springs in Tsavo West, where hippos and crocodiles swim in crystal-clear water. You can also stand beside Lugard Falls on the Galana River in Tsavo East.

Best time to visit

June to October is dry, so wildlife is easy to see around the waterholes. January and February are also good months for a safari.

How to get there

Tsavo sits roughly halfway between Nairobi and Mombasa, so the Mombasa Road and the Standard Gauge Railway both pass close by.
